I hop in the car. We exchange hugs, and quick catch up with the easy. Hi... Good... Nice to see you... Great scarf. In under two blocks, he knows I'm feeling unsettled, but we'll talk about it when we get to the restaurant.
You smell good, he says.
I always smell good. I smell like I always smell.
It's comforting, he says.
There is no comfort like the comfort I get when sitting across from the man I've known and loved for the most important years of my life. He knows the best and heartbreakingest versions of my self. He takes my insanity in stride, and laughs when no one else gets the joke. His face tells me he understands... everything.
He used to fashion funfair rides out of back pockets or laundry baskets, never questioning his role as carney. I was there when he was bitten by a bear.
We broke up almost four years ago. And we're closer now than ever. Thank you for the french toast. Thank you for the book shopping. And for all the love and support I sometimes think I don't deserve. You're the best ever, pup.
ps... I hope that Lorelai and Christopher end up together, too.
You need to watch the new Interpol video. Evil is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time, and the video is stunning.
Don't be frightened of the puppet. He's very sad, and quite agitated at times, but I think you'll find him real easy to love, too.
The thing about the egg shaker is, you have to let it come to you. Think not about how the shaker is shaken, but realize instead, that there is no egg shaker.
Stay tuned for a post where I am still talking about The Stone Roses, and thinking about joining their reunion tour.
Years ago, I was in love with a hep young cat. He had his own style and his own way, and it made me swoon. My friend F said that one day, he'd figure me out. This fella would walk up to me and say:
TwentySeven, I want you in Pumas.
Never quite went down like that. Which is ok - because truthfully, I always fancied myself more of an Adidas girl. But boy... I'd have worn those Pumas, with everything I had.
Big thanks to everyone who called, emailed or messaged, to tell me the Lancer was going to be on TV today. Y'all rock. It's been a long time since I cried while watching an Oprah show, but I do not hang my head in shame: Armstrong is a hero for the ages. His is such a great story, and I'm hooked. As horns.
What's really cool, is that this summer, I'm going to get to hear how my favourite racers pronounce my name:
Sette. Siete. Zeven. SEVEN!
As if Ralph Lauren beats me when it comes to hot sexy small girls.
I mean, jeez. Ask around!
Now that we've had time to recover from the demise of Brad and Jen - and reconciled ourselves to the fact that if those two can't look at each other for the rest of their lives, we haven't got a hope in hell - we need think about their successors.
I'd like to nominate Jay-Z and Beyonce as the new It Couple.
Cause mami's a rider, and I'm a roller
Put us together - how they gonna stop both us
Whatever she lacks, I'm right over her shoulder
When I'm off track, mami is keepin me focused
So let's lock this down, like it's supposed to be
The '03 Bonnie and Clyde, Hov' and B
Dubstyle and I were at the grocery store, and I (surprisingly!) was in a sour mood. We were in a rush to get home, but behind one Seriously Annoying Customer in line. SAC and the clerk were going back and forth over fifteen cents worth of bananas.
I, ever the impatient one, fish out a quarter. "Here you go... here's a quarter. Can we just wrap this up?"
"Don't you be handing me money!" SAC starts shouting. "It's the principle! It's the principle of the thing!"
I grab my bottle of Fantastik and point it at her.
"Easy lady. I've had a rough day. Just take the money, and walk away."
If I ever decide to have kids, I think I'll have a boy. My friend says Oblong might be a good name. But I'd only call him that if his father was a Dutchman. Because Oblong VandenHoogenband sounds pretty damn cool.
Remember that time in the pool, Pieter? With the Thorpedo? Ontmoett u uw zoon, Oblong.
Or maybe I'll have twins. I could call them Melancholy and Mollify. Or Beatrix and Potter!
You may now begin feeling sorry for my unborn children.
Might as well take Jesus out of Easter weekend, while you're at it.
It's the Forest, that separates the men from the boys - where it's as easy to get tangled up in someone else's misfortune, as it is to create your own. But the display of strength and will in those two-point-four kilometers is staggering, and leaves me awestruck every time.
I'll lay down my glasses
I'll lay down in houses
If things come alive
I'll subtract pain by ounces
I will start painting houses
If things come alive
I promise to commit no acts of violence
Either physical or otherwise
If things come alive
I'll say it now
Oh I'll say it now
Cause I want it now
